Tutbury Remembers – D-Day 80
As we remember and commemorate those who fought and those who died on D-Day and in the Normandy campaign, we would like to Remember the men of Tutbury who died in WWII.
Thirteen WWII Fallen are listed on the Tutbury War Memorial – by June 6, 1944, nine men from the village had already died.
Three were buried in Cemeteries or Remembered on Memorials in the UK, one in France (St. Nazaire), one in Libya (Tobruk), one in Tunisia, one in Italy (Cassino) and two were buried in the Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand, having died on the infamous Burma Railway.
Two more were to die on the march to Berlin, another would be buried in Malta and the last would die two weeks before the end of the War on 1st August 1945, the 2nd man from Tutbury to be Remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, the Memorial for the Missing for the RAF.
